I've always had problems and issues with my being overweight. It had made me overly self-conscious and hurt my confidence. Having to deal with low self-esteem was one of the worst side effects of being overweight for me.
A few years back, I decided I had to work on the problem, and thus began my weight loss story. I was tired of hearing all kinds of advice on different types of diets, and had even begun getting repulsed by them since they only made me confused further. Weight-loss surely had to be simpler than that.
Finally, I resorted to self-help and began my fat loss efforts my way. Although I knew exercise would be crucial, I wasn't inclined towards a gym. The gym thing put me off psychologically because gyms seem to be full of people who're already slim! I thought of taking to regular walking instead of jumping into the car, and began tennis practice again.
I guess the primary cause for my weight condition was poor diet, since I ate all kinds of food that I liked. People would keep telling me to stop eating what I loved the most, and that was simply out of the question! I just loved eating and I wouldn't stop it totally - not for weight loss, not for the world.
I did some thinking on weight loss basics, and decided to make a note of everything I ate. A healthy breakfast would precede lunch with nothing consumed in between. For a guy who loves snacking on crisps and chocolate, it wasn't going to happen easily. I had a strategy to beat my cravings. Whenever I had a craving, popping a polo mint did the job; or sometimes I just brushed my teeth! It does sound crazy and unconnected, but believe me, it worked fine for me. To sum it up, finding ways to distract yourself from eating in between meals is perhaps the best way to successful weight loss, besides regular and consistent exercise.
